Open Riding at the Tanana Valley State Fairgrounds has resumed Summer 2005. The arena may be available on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays USUALLY from 6 PM to 9 PM. If the ride manager will be at the Fairgrounds at a different time, it will be noted on the schedule.
If we get more people to sign up as arena managers, we can expand the hours if there are people who want to ride at other times on those days of the week. Whatever hours we want we can have on those three days, as long as we have managers. It is not a difficult or demanding job,you can do it at the same time you ride your horse!! Email us if you are willing to be a manager so we may add your name to the list.
The Golden Days Horse Expo had fabulous weather and was a busy two day event with Cowboy Mounted Shooting on Saturday and then the Expo on Sunday.
We are preparing for our Winter Fundraiser on February 19, 2005. If you have items you may want to donate or you can help in any way, please contact us and let us know!
Well it's that time again. Cabin fever got you down? The IHC is putting on their Winter Fundraiser for 2005 and we need your help and support.

There will be outcry auction, silent auction and door prizes and all proceeds benefit the Interior Horse Council. We need to finish the project at the Fairgrounds.
IHC is looking for deserts for our desert bar. We need pies, cakes and cookies (no refrigerated deserts like cheesecake please). We also need an army of volunteers to help set up, run auctions, take money at the door, help with the kids section for an HOUR OR TWO maximum.
Please let us know any way you can help Interior Horse Council. You can email us at interiorhorsecouncil@yahoo.com or call Lara at 488-8088 or drop off donations of auction items to Alaska Fun Center.

Spring 2004 Project Update
New Equestrian Facility at the Tanana Valley Fairgrounds
The geese are back, the snow is gone, and things are quite different down at the fairgrounds since the 2002 fair. With the generous support of our sponsors and the efforts of our dedicated volunteers, the Interior Horse Council has succeeded in completing the rough grading of the arena area, stockpiled sand for arena footing, purchased fencing for one arena, completed chain link fence demolition and filled in 95% of the new parking area in the approximately 8 acre tract obtained from the State Department of Natural Resources by the Tanana Valley Fair Association.
The current goal of the organization is to develop safe horse facilities in Interior Alaska that can be used to educate and train equestrians of all ages. The organization works with the Fair Association to improve the safety of the existing horse facilities. The plans include unobtrusive security fencing which will separate the spectators and parking area from the horses and exhibitors, reducing the chance of accidents. A large warm up area and enclosed round pens are incorporated into the design to allow proper warm up of horses prior to entering competition in a safe, un-crowded environment. This reduces the chance of injury to horses and riders. Arena footing is designed to reduce injuries to horses as well. Spectators will be treated to a “Park” where, among other educational displays, the history of the horse in the Tanana Valley will be on display. This area is planned between the 2 arenas and will include a hands on theme for children along with the history lesson for adults. Eventually, one of the arenas will be enclosed to extend our short riding and showing season. The Fairgrounds has the potential of becoming the premier equine facility in Alaska with the help of our sponsors and dedicated volunteer base.
New arenas are already scheduled with events as early as the end of May this year. Events have been scheduled in all three arenas (the old Carroll Phillips Arena, the new Carroll Phillips Arena, and the new Large Arena) during the Fair this year. In order to accomplish this, the following work must be completed: gravel surface the new access road, extend the power line to the new access road, construct a new announcer's booth/office, electrify the arena area for area lighting and announcer's booth/office, fill and grade the parking area and complete the arena and security fencing.
The Golden Days Horse Expo that was held July 20th was a great success! Thanks to everyone that made it possible!

We have been granted 501c(3) status from the IRS. All donations will now be tax deductable.
